Great SUV with easy modifications - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By mustang133 - August 4 - 2:00 amMy 3rd Explorer Sport. Lowered by 1.5" - front adjustable, rear blocks, Bilstein shocks and 275/60-17 tires improve handling 100%. 2.5" Flowmaster exhaust, K&N air filter and cool air intake and performance chip (ECU) increases HP to 250+ with 21-22 miles per gallon highway. These changes made the Explorer Sport an exceptional truck in handling and driveability, ride comfort and performance (faster than the V-8 Explorer). Ive driven it to Florida and back to New York with 3 passengers and loaded, including a roof carrier. Id much rather drive the Sport than my V-8 Crown Victoria on long trips now. Too bad, they stopped making it. Great truck.

Rides Like an SUV - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By MattP - July 11 - 10:00 amI had read some previous reviews on the site, and I feel they are somewhat inacurate. This car is not a Grand Cherokee or an Expedition, as reflected by its selling price. This is a 2 door SUV with a strong engine, extremely capable transmission, and the ride of a SUV. I dont think Ford ever designed this car to ride like a sedan. Having had mine for seven months now, I am very pleased with its performance.

Reliable Transportation - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By bbm - May 29 - 12:34 pmI bought my 01 Sport after my 99 Sport was totalled 2 years ago with around 118,000 miles on it. Ive never had to anything other than routine oil changes, etc and Ive put about 20,000 miles on it. Im not easy on cars either. The only issues Ive had with it is that it is hard to start (it doesnt crank immediately) and the disc changer stopped working. Unfortunately, someone rear-ended me and totalled this one 2 weeks ago. As long as only having 2 doors (NOT fun for travelling or people with children) and bad gas mileage (15-16 mpg city) dont bother you, this is a great SUV. I would recommend an Explorer in a heartbeat.

Awsome Car - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By johna - May 24 - 10:00 amHonestly, I am a pretty crazy driver. Being a crazy driver, I would need a reliable vehicle that can handle hard turns, speed, fast breaking, and things like that. My 2001 Ford Explorer Sport has done these things and a whole lot more. Thats why I would strongly recomend this vehicle to anyone.

So far so good! - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport
By SportDriver - April 11 - 10:00 amHavent finished going through the "break-in" period with the truck yet, so my rating may be a little premature, but I digress... From past experience driving Expos with the SOHC V6, I know power delivery is and will be outstanding! Seats feel good, though the headrests are waaay too low. Lotsa storage space, and the truck feels generally well screwed together, though the long-term quality outlook still has me sweating... Overall, if this type of rugged truck- based vehicle appeals to you, and you find the right price, than I heartily reccomend the Explorer Sport (at least till years end when Im told theyre being canceled...)

My First Ford! - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport
By Nicci - April 5 - 10:00 amThis is my first Ford and I was very hesistant in purchasing it. First, since this is the last year for Ford Explorer Sports, I felt that the value would depreciate quickly. However, with all the nice features, I wouldnt trade it for anything.

Decent little ride - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By Bigg E - March 21 - 10:00 pmIve had my truck for about a year and so far so good. My only complaints are the harsh ride over anything but smooth highway. It definately rides like a truck. The short wheelbase makes it bounce all over the lane when you hit a bump. Overall, I like my truck. It was a great deal. 4x4 works good. I would recommend it to anyone that is single or does not plan to carry a lot of passengers. Good cargo room for its size. Has not given me any problems either.

Great SUV - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport
By Florida1 - February 14 - 10:00 amI never considered a Ford until I test drove this Explorer two years ago. I have not had one problem with it since I bought it. I drove it cross country (Seattle to Orlando) and the seats proved to be extremely comfortable. I have the version with side airbags and wished the front seats had head rests though. There is also a rattle in the trunk from the plastic loose. I cant seem to make it go away. The truck is very powerful and beats many cars off the line while it pegs you to the back of the seat on acceleration. I might consider another Ford next year, but they are going to have to get more refined before I buy over a foreign model.
